The word hijab is derived from the language of Arabic, which means a barrier. The main idea and goal behind wearing a hijab are to protect the women’s modesty and iman by covering their hair from the male gaze. It is a piece of clothing worn by Muslim women around the world who have faith.
Often there has been a debate about whether or not wearing a hijab is a compulsion. Over the years, since fashion and trends have evolved, some women find that wearing a hijab makes them feel empowered, while some state that it makes them feel as though they are held back.
According to the Holy Quran, wearing a hijab is a must. A woman who does not wear a hijab or finds difficulty wearing it is definitely committing a sin. The hijab concept is that it protects the modesty of women by covering their hair externally, but internally also protects their innocence. As stated in the Holy Quran, it is a proven fact that it is faradh (mandatory) for a woman who has taken Islam as her religion and believes in the faith of Allah to wear a hijab.
And whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger, fears Allaah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful” [al-Noor 24:51-52]
This is a verse from the Holy Quran, which clearly states that those who follow Allah’s commands with joy and acceptance in their heart will prove to be successful in this life and the hereafter. The Quran is the only book in the world that remains unchanged from the time it was released to date. The information is given to us, and then it remains the same till date.
Wearing the hijab is equal to pleasing Allah and obeying is given commands.
Regardless of their country or cultural background, women who have embraced Islam as their religion are required to wear the hijab as a command from Allah. However, wearing an outdated hijab style can sometimes affect a woman’s confidence.
That’s why the hijab industry is continuously striving to provide a variety of hijab types, such as georgette, cotton, and chiffon. This ensures that Muslim women can wear hijabs suitable for different occasions and weather conditions, allowing them to feel stylish and comfortable without feeling outdated or out of place.
Those women who despise the hijab or don’t wear it or look down upon women ho wear it are committing a sin and are performing an act that is haram.
“Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful (and) severe.
This is another verse from the Quran that states that those women who go against and rebel against Allah will be dealt severely for the actions that will have consequences.
The reward of wearing a hijab is abundant for a woman, just like how a woman who chooses not to wear it will be punished severely.
Allah has and always will be all-forgiving. It is never too late to turn towards the right path and seek and ask for forgiveness. Wearing a hijab pleases Allah greatly, and you shall be rewarded with the best and the greatest of things in this life and the hereafter.
However, women who chose to disobey and rebel will be punished as not wearing a hijab is considered haram.
